Dr. Sunil Budhrani, a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician, is the chief executive officer of Innovation Health, a first-of-its-kind payer-provider partnership between CVS-Aetna and one of the largest health systems in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area, INOVA Health System. He joined the organization in May 2016 as the chief medical officer and took on the additional role of CEO shortly thereafter. Sunil guides the continued success and expansion of Innovation Health with a focus on member growth and access to quality, affordable health coverage.
As CEO of Innovation Health, Dr. Budhrani plays an important role providing guidance to organizations, sports, and educational systems affected by the pandemic to include approaches for getting their staff back to the new “normal” safely. By contributing to numerous media interviews on a national and regional level, along with being an advisor to a number of recognized public and private organizations, Dr. Budhrani has provided unique insight as a corporate executive and practicing ER physician during these unprecedented times.
Dr. Budhrani has practiced at several leading institutions throughout his career. They include: George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC; DC VA Medical Center in Washington, DC; Inova Health System in Falls Church, Virginia; Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida; Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey; and Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts. In addition to his roles in hospital settings, Dr. Budhrani also founded a national end-to-end telemedicine solutions company and prior to that, a regional Urgent Care system, which operated urgent care facilities throughout the metropolitan Washington DC area. He also served as the first chief medical officer of the Affordable Care Act health plan, Evergreen Health Care, for the State of Maryland.
Dr. Budhrani graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania with Bachelor of Arts degrees in neuroscience and English. He then completed his medical degree and a Master of Public Health at The George Washington University. After, he completed his residency training in emergency medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Massachusetts. He is currently a clinical associate professor of emergency medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine. He is an American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) certified emergency physician.
