Dr. Gwendolyn Collaço received her PhD from the joint program for History of Art & Architecture and Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University. Prior to that, she completed her master's degree in Middle Eastern studies at the University of Chicago. Gwendolyn currently serves as the Assistant Curator for Art of the Middle East at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Her research explores the commercial painting market in the Ottoman empire during the 17th to 18th centuries and histories of collecting. She has also taught courses at the university level in art history and general education, including courses on Islamic art, myth, and writing.
