
Derek is a behavior and culture expert in the Boston Consulting Group's People and Organization practice, where he advises senior leaders in Fortune 500 companies on building high-performance cultures and executing successful transformations. As an affiliated faculty member in Organizational Dynamics, Derek delivers workshops in Wharton's Executive Education division on influence, team leadership, and organizational culture. He also previously taught the Wharton core course on teams and leadership for hundreds of students, for which he won the Huntsman Program Senior Class Teaching Award.
Derek is the co-author of Committed Teams: Three Steps to Inspiring Passion and Performance (Wiley Press, 2016), a SoundView best business book. He has been a contributor for Fortune and Entrepreneur, and his work has also been featured in Forbes, Quartz, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and leading industry publications. He designed and launched a series of Coursera courses on building high-performing teams with University of Pennsylvania colleagues that have been taken by thousands of learners and selected as Best Online Business Courses by Poets & Quants.
Derek received his PhD in cultural anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, where he won a National Science Foundation grant to support his research on organizational barriers to change in the Brazilian energy industry.
